20 Uses for Lanolin

Being a new Mom I purchased Lanolin and started to use it for the first month.  I bought a larger tube and just did not need it for very long.  I wanted to know what else I could use Lanolin for.  It utrns out to be a great product to have around and a small amount will go a long way.  Here is a list of a few things to use that left over lanolin or maybe keep some on hand, it is quite useful.
This is my favorite brand.
  1. Melt a small amount and mix with water for waterproofing,  1tsp to 2 cups of water. Spritz on shoes and fabrics to protect against stains.
  2. Soak fabrics in mixture to water proof.
  3. Use on chapped skin, lips, and eczema.
  4. Protect cheeks from cold.
  5. Great for skin sores and chapped skin, it's is a great barrier for moisture can help speed healing.
  6. Cuticle repair
  7. Mix with Homemade body butters add in 2 tsp.
  8. Soften feet by applying overnight.
  9. Gardeners hands, protects against cuts and moisture loss.  It is also great for speeding the healing of small cuts and scrapes from over worn hands.
  10. Put under noses of your little ones with colds to protect the skin from over drying and wiping.
  11. Add essential oil, like eucalyptus and lavender, and apply to feet or chest.
  12. Has anti bacterial properties great for after hand wash for extra protection and to protect against bacteria getting into sores and cuts on hands.
  13. Softens and protects leather, for leather car seats and base ball gloves.
  14. Add onto a bore hair bristle brush and brush throughout hair for added shine and moisture protection.
  15. Use as a pomade by applying a small pea size amount on hands and rubbing on  hair or day use as a defrizzer and night for moisture retention.
  16. Add into the Homemade laundry detergent in a small amount, 2tsp to one gallon, for added stain protection and waterproofing.  Stains will be less absorbed into the fabric.  Not recommended for laundering cloth diapers.
  17. It is often used in store bought eye drops to help lubricate.  At home rub a small amount at the corner of the eye to lubricate and keep sensitive skin lubricated and protected against dry weather.
  18. Red cheeks and dry skin rub on after cleansing to help fight against bacteria common to acne and roseca and help speed healing.
  19. Add into Homemade lip gloss recipe for added protection and longevity of application.
  20. Use on elbows and knees to heal and soften dry skin patches.
I went out to the Mountain with my kids to snowsled and covered thier checks with Lanolin to protect against red, dry, cheeks and it worked well.  It can also be used for baby's bottom.  It has anti bacterial properties to help protect them.

Body Butter Bar

Here is another one of my favorite body products.  I have searched high and low to find the best body butters and bars. Often they are scented with strange things like Lemon grass, Red Clove or heavily with Lavender.  I like these scents but not so much on me.  I decided to come up with my own Body bar that is scented just right.  The cocoa butter is a great scent alone as well.

This works great for those handy man hands or gardener hands.  Using it after a shower is great for moisturizing and conditioning the skin.  I like to use it at night for my face.

Here is what you will need.

1/4 c Mango Butter
3/4 c Cocoa Butter
1 Tble Beeswax
6 drops grape seed oil or other carrier oil like Olive or Almond.
3-6 drops Aloe Vera
1 tsp vitamin e
essential oil of you choice scent to preference. light is 1/2 tsp heavy is 2tsp
1 tsp corn starch. to reduce oiliness

I used these heart shaped tins just in time for Valentine gifts for teachers and for friends. This recipe made 4 bars. Make sure to oil the tins before hand with the carrier oil or any other. Cup cake tins will work just fine as well.  If they get stuck in the pans, just hover over a heated stove to lightly melt and tip out.
Mix butters in a pan and melt slowly to avoid grittyness.  Once they are melted  add the corn starch.  This helps with the greasiness of the butters and will brown for added color. This can be skipped if preferred. Take of the heat and add the scent, oils, Aloe Vera, and Vit E.
Let cool in the fridge or out on the counter. Once dried, tip out of tins and wrap.  I attached labels with glue dots.
